2. No one who lacks the space in their personalities for sin can allow the entrance of authentic Goodness. Much of what people call piety or devoutness or goodness has all the spontaneity of squirrels burying acorns for winter. Our task as humans is to evolve beyond our instincts, beyond our “givens”–both biological and social–and enter into a free relation with the spirit of goodness which coexists alongside all the evil in this world.
