Spiritual digestion

Bread feeds your body.  Emotional and spiritual digestion of experience–of the energies in the world–is what feeds your soul.

And how does one “digest” experience?  By accepting it, then adding it to an existing flow of energy–both emotional and subtle–within oneself.

Kum Nye, on this account, could literally be rendered “the practice and science of emotional and spiritual digestion, which is to say internalization and integration and reradiation.”

What is the life of the body?  Doing.  What is the life of the soul?  Being.  They are intertwined.

I recently started reading Marcus Aurelius, and the Stoic philosophy is in important attributes identical to that of Buddhism.  You are reject desire and aversion, and you try to “cling” to what is real, what is good, what is eternal.  The Hindu phrase Sukkhadukhasamo (Happiness and pain the same) applies.

And spiritual digestion is health, and health is happiness.

This morning I was contemplating the odds of the survival of our Republic as something not run by leering bastards who sell themselves cheap and don’t understand anyone unwilling to do so. The odds are against sanity, decency, and goodness.

But then I thought to myself: all I can control is me.  My focus needs to be on maintaining my own integrity–of keeping myself from being pulled to pieces and scattered to the four winds by inconsistency, lies, and denial–and the rest is out of my control.  And here is the core truth I realized: this is simultaneously PRACTICAL and idealistic.  It is the best of all worlds.  It is very difficult, but intelligent, and generous to the extent generosity truly is a gift to the world.

I get moments of this, of connection even to “bad” energies, and it is FASCINATING.  The sum product of “bad” energies and my own life is completely unpredictable.  Beauty can be found in ugliness, joy in the processing of pain.  Life can be a miracle where it DOES NOT MATTER what “happens” to you.

These are old teachings, old skills, not very common any more.  But everything that was ever possible remains possible, in my view.

Worthy Cause

Cut and paste from an email:

A Letter From Chef Edward Lee

The Power of a Meal in the Time of COVID

The end of a year is always a time for reflection and this year is no different even as we endure the 10th month of a pandemic. The LEE Initiative has accomplished so much this year: over 1.1 million meals served, over $4 million given to direct aid, over $1 million in grants to small family farms, etc. I can recite the numbers but they don’t tell the story of the compassion I have witnessed and the lessons I have learned. People are not numbers. People do not survive on statistics. And human kindness is not a calculation.

So much has happened since we started with one relief kitchen in Louisville back on March 16th 2020. What I predicted back then sadly turned out to become a reality – that hunger would grip this nation like never before. The sheer scope of the need in our country weighs so heavily on me that I can’t stop to think about it too long or I will be overwhelmed with grief. I have seen mothers go without food to feed their children. I have seen people pick up a meal one week and come back to volunteer the next because they believed so deeply in our mission. I once got an email from a bartender asking for permission to pick up a free meal because even though she was without food, she knew that there were others who were worse off and she didn’t feel like she deserved it. I have seen children without winter coats in December. I have seen people get out of their cars and cry because these meals meant so much to them. I have heard the voices of farmers weeping because a small grant was all they could rely on to get through a bleak winter as they watched their farm wither into seedless dirt. I have read countless emails from chefs pleading for help because they had nowhere else to turn to. I have fielded so many calls and emails and messages varying from gratitude to anger to confusion to hopelessness.

Sometimes, I am so inured to the daily grind of finding money to buy more meals for struggling families that I grow numb. Sometimes, I am so vulnerable that an offhand comment from a stranger saying, “You should be proud,” catches me off guard and I have to run to the bathroom so I can catch my own tears in the palms of my hand. I vacillate, often numerous times a day, between feelings of pride and guilt and futility. I cannot stop to wonder about how we will ever get out of this mess. I have missed many zoom meetings to lobby on behalf of the restaurant industry to my senators. I forgot to send Christmas cards this year. And still the need piles up, the calls, the emails, the constant worry that we can’t accomplish our goals.

But tonight is a quiet night, I have a little room to breathe, and this is what I have learned this year. In my almost 3 decades of being a chef, I finally understand what the power of a meal can be. It is hope. Sometimes a meal goes to a family of four who struggle each night to put food on the table, sometimes it an elderly person who lives in isolation with no one to talk to, sometimes it is a person who is so distraught that a meal feels like a connection to something greater than one’s own struggle. But all these people share one thing. They are all part of our community. They make up a society that is greater than the sum of our individual parts.

A meal tells people that there is someone who is thinking of them, someone who cares enough to package a roast chicken delicately into a to-go container with the mash potatoes pushed off to the side and a generous pile of green beans tucked in between. A meal is a connection to a farmer, a purveyor, a chef, an administrative person, a volunteer and ultimately to a person who is thankful. Isn’t that what a meal is all about? The meals we have paid for and distributed offer hope to the unemployed chef who can provide for her family, to the farmer who can proudly sell his product knowing it is going to feed someone who will appreciate it, to the truck drivers who are grateful for the work, to the restaurants who don’t want a hand out but an opportunity to work and contribute to society. A meal makes the world go round. A meal is a sense of normalcy in an insane world. It is a source of pride and an act of faith.

In a year of helplessness, it has provided me the strength and motivation to keep on with my work when sometimes all I wanted to do was stay in bed for days. As a young chef, a meal gave me a restaurant career but as a citizen in the times of COVID, it has given me a purpose.

For every single person out there who has given so generously to us whether it was $5 or $50,000, you are the heroes of this year. You are the women and men who have stepped up when this country needed you the most. Thank yous are not enough. Every penny you have donated is a miracle that will ensure that there will be a community after this nightmare is over.

A community that cares for each other, that nurtures our neighbors, that send a powerful message that we will not forget about our peers, our brothers and sisters, our grandparents, our children, our wives and husbands, our friends. I applaud you from the bottom of my heart but I also leave you with this message: the fight is not over. Though a vaccine is here and there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel, we still have miles to go. And every day is anopportunity to move an inch. It is an insurmountable task but my incredible team and I will not stop.

The LEE Initiative team is Lindsey, Kaitlyn, Collis, Sam, Nina and Erin but we are supported by the guidance and work of our family and friends: Ben, Lora, Shauntrice, Karen, Tim, Dianne and the hundreds of volunteers who have made our efforts possible.

We need to keep raising funds to get through to the other side of winter. We know you are exhausted. You are tired of giving. You are sick of it all. So are we. But we still need you. We need your compassion. We need your help in spreading our message to whoever is listening. And most of all, we need your hope.

Together is how we get through this. Together is how I define this year.

Worth the watch

I thought this worth the watch. It is clear, coherent, factual as far as I can tell, and fits the need well for some sort of conspiracy theory to explain this mass madness, that I keep commenting on day after week after month.

Burnt by the Sun

I posted on this some years ago, but in my mind, this is the best movie by means of which to begin to appreciate what Communism is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssJbC2pNaCA

It takes a while to set up.  Be patient.  It will kick you in the balls.

“honest” politicians

There was a saying, back in the days when most Americans knew that most politicians were for sale, that “an honest politician is one who, once bought, stays bought”.  It was half joke, half serious, I think.

I have said this before, but what we need are less politicians who are “honest” this way.  We need more tech titans–some of whom may have “borrowed” money from the Chinese to start up or stay up–who are less “honest” too.

It would be a boss move for Trump to proactively offer to pardon anyone willing to come forward with details.  Some people have no consciences to speak of, but there are certainly a lot of people who, in times of duress or hasty greed, made decisions they have come to regret.

What has to be understood is that the tyrants always eat their own.  Some of Stalin’s worst excesses were directed at people that helped him and Lenin gain power in the first place, the Old Guard.  He hated the Old Guard.  They were a threat to him.

EVEN IF you are part of a movement you think will protect you, EVEN IF you think you are safe, you are not safe, if you know too much.  There can only be a few.  Everyone else is burned in the fire.  There are compartments inside of compartments, and if you are not at the middle, you are driftwood once your particular task in the whole thing is complete.

No silence is silent enough

I think a lot of people think if they just keep their mouths shut, and go along to get along, they will be fine.

I don’t think this is true.  I don’t think there is any path out but insanity on the one hand–of the sort Winston Smith ended with–complete marginalization in the middle, and the victory of common decency on the other.

The power elites KNOW WHO YOU ARE.  They have databases which can instantly analyze every website you have been to, every statement you have ever made on the internet, who your social networks are, where you work, how much you make, and they can assemble a pretty damn accurate psychological profile instantly using AI.

And there are any number of tools they can use against you.  I won’t share my own ideas, since I may have thought of things they haven’t–although it is doubtful–but just consider that the array of ways of attacking and marginalizing you are much vaster in scope than you are likely to be able to imagine.

You exist in an informational soup they control.  You cannot escape it, outside of face to face conversations with friends, and perhaps paper communications–what we used to call letters.

It does not matter how silent you are.  If you are not one of them you will be flagged and targeted.  It is inevitable.  Fascism–which is plainly the goal–is “Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State.”  That was Mussolini’s definition.

And if you are actually or potentially against them, that WILL NOT be allowed to stand.

I cannot overemphasize how surreal this moment is, how present the danger, how potent the powers arrayed against freedom, dignity and basic goodness.

EVERYTHING humanity has ever longed for is RIGHT HERE.  It is possible.  It would even be inevitable if powerful and evil human beings were not snatching all our progress from us as quickly as it can happen.

As I say, I can’t see the way forward.  My own path makes a virtue of speaking the truth as well as I can.  That is all I can think to do.  Please add your own contributions.  It is up to all of us.

Never quit.  Never submit.  Never give in, at least fully.  If full resistance is not possible, take what you can get.  Maintain hope.  Keep up the fight as long as there is breath in you, then fight from wherever we go after that, for the good of and ultimate salvation of all living beings.

Imagine

If the hidden oligarchs of the world are willing to murder millions of people around the world to prevent Donald Trump from getting reelected, imagine what is possible with him out of the way.

It is literally possible that more people may die of hunger globally in 2020-2021 than died in 25 years or so of intermittent and completely unnecessary famine in China, which was prior to now the largest famine in recorded world history.  It is a virtual certainly that more people will die of starvation than Stalin murdered in the Ukraine.

Google is blocking the link I just posted.  That link should be GOOD NEWS for anyone who actually wants this pandemic to end.  But it is not good news.  It is terrible news for Google.  They are fully behind this push to put our freedom and prosperity in the rear view mirror.

I continue to believe President Trump needs to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to prevent these evil and horrific monsters from occupying our White House.

Exactly

 https://www.foxnews.com/health/vitamin-d-other-everyday-vitamins-could-counter-coronavirus-effects-report

[This link is apparently being blocked.  As if more fucking evidence were needed that the world is increasingly under the control of psychopaths.  Do a search on something other than Google on the key words, or check Fox News directly for Vitamin D.  This is some nasty, nasty news, that should infuriate anyone with a pulse and a conscience.]

“Additional studies also revealed nine out of 10 COVID-19 deaths could have been prevented if people had adequate Vitamin D levels, the  FOX 26 report said.”

Ponder all this. Ponder that we HAD what amounted to a really good, really safe, EXTREMELY affordable vaccine LAST FUCKING MARCH, and nobody talked about it.

None of this was necessary. Try and process that. NONE OF IT. Not the lockdowns, the school closings, the mass suicides, drug overdoses, and present severe clinical depressions in a large segment of our populace. We did not have to cancel live music, or drive a third of our restaurants out of business.

And this article does not talk about zinc either, which makes things even better. Basically the Vitamin D seems to prevent the cytokine storm, and zinc alleviates the rest of the symptoms. The first keeps you out of the hospital, the second gets you back on your feet a day or two sooner.

This whole things turns my stomach. It really does. The lies, the EVIL, and self congratulatory idiocy and virtue signaling. The COORDINATION that was needed. The sheer number of people who HAD to be complicit in this crime.

As of today the WHO has us at 323,000 deaths. 90% of that is 290,700. That is the number of people who arguably would not have died of COVID-19 if Fauci had followed the SCIENCE, the basic fucking SCIENCE, that I was reading about last March. Now, many would be dead of something else–since the average age of death from COVID-19 is the average age of death from all causes, which in our country is about 78–but they would not have died of COVID-19, if indeed they even did (clearly many did not).

Let’s say HALF of those people would still be alive. That may be on the high side, but let’s run with it. That works out to not quite 150,000 people who are DEAD, now, who would be ALIVE if our chief “expert” had exercised even MARGINAL competence.

This means that MORE AMERICANS DIED FROM FAUCI’S INCOMPETENCE THAN DIED IN WORLD WAR 1 AND KOREA COMBINED.

Again, the sun has risen, and I feel sick. It happens every day. All I know to do is speak the truth from my little corner in the middle of nowhere and hope somebody reads it who matters, and who will help spread these obvious facts.

My Vote

Without really knowing what true options are open to President Trump to protect our Republic from a de facto invasion by China and others, I will assert that my vote would be to pursue the avenues being recommended by General Flynn, and perhaps Sidney Powell.

It is unclear, but it seems there may be a power struggle between them and Rudy Guiliani and others.

I admire Rudy.  He is doing a yeomen job putting all the evidence together, and has worked HARD trying to get it in front of sympathetic legislatures.  I hope he succeeds in convincing them to do their fucking jobs and certify Electors that represent the actual will of the people whose interests they supposedly defend and protect.

But signs are not good.  The cowardice and corruption seem to be too deep.  50 years ago, I don’t think the people of America would have been deceived for a moment.  There would have been screaming and yelling.  I like to think there was a less complacent and less stupid time, in any event.

And Rudy Guiliani, perhaps more than anyone else–with the possible exception of President Bush–is associated with 9/11.  He has never commented on the evidence that the Towers were brought down by explosives, and specifically the CLEAR and UNDENIABLE evidence that Tower 7 in particular was.  He has toed the official line.

Obviously, there are many potential reasons for that, and I am making no claims about his honestly.

But what is needed now is audacity, and Rudy seems tired.  He is doing the prosecutorial work he has done ably much of his life, but the courts–Justice, writ large–seem closed for business.  I really hope I am wrong, but he seems destined to fail, and to get an Attaboy from the few historians willing to speak even approximate truths.

If there is a larger, more audacious, and perhaps more risky path, that seems to me the one most likely to succeed.  Who Dares Wins.

My two cents, spoken from a deep hole of logistical and tactical ignorance.

Wondering

So I never really quit anything.  I am a passionate man, and am driven by them.  It is good and bad.  It is both something to be managed and something I accept.

Here is my latest idea: given that it seems OBVIOUS that China interfered in our election in a number of ways– from perhaps direct vote changing via connected machines, to buying off politicians and journalists, to paying Big Tech to enact censorship and manipulation–could Donald Trump use his own Executive Order to cancel all of the national  debt held by China?  They hold a LOT of it, perhaps $10 trillion or more.  This might precipitate an economic downturn in China that could change everything.

It would of course affect the dollar too.  This idea would need to be evaluated by people who know more than me.  But it would be an audacious stroke.

I think everyone needs to understand Xi is not solidly in power: he is CLINGING to power.  He is an horrific leader, and his people in rebellion more or less continually, or at least they were until recently.  They have protests and riots and demonstrations and acts of violence that they just hush up and make disappear.  When the Tibetans were setting themselves on fire in desperation, when they could think of nothing else, the Chinese solution was to put squads of soldiers on permanent stand-by to put them out and hustle them off the street within an ideal of five minutes, no matter where it happened.

Why not counter-attack?  Why grant China more power than it has?  It is in fact a fragile, weak nation, filled with people who loathe its government.  And why not?  They are ruled by hateful, loathsome crooks and psychopaths.

And while I am at it: as I have stated numerous times, American money is not real.  Why not use the “Stimulus” to pay down the individual debts of American citizens and small businesses?  Why not create a website where people can go as individuals to cancel up to, say, $10,000 in personal debt?  Businesses under $20 million in revenue, perhaps a MILLION in debt?

All of this shit, all of this $900 “Stimulus” is, as far as I know, being created for the purpose by the Federal Reserve.  This means it is a tax in the form of inflation that we have not paid yet.  The inflation will not show up until money starts moving again.

And on that note, I will comment that this is a near ideal situation for the people who control our money, and who have used that control to become essentially infinitely rich.  They want to buy up the world with created money that is given to them in the tens or hundreds of billions.  What they have done is engineer a situation where large sums of money are being CREATED, but not CIRCULATED.  This means the money supply has increased, allowing them to buy up America cheap, but the EFFECTS of that money creation have not yet appeared.

And I will say again: if and when hyperinflation appears, it is not hard to solve.  What we need to do is create enough money to pay off all debts, public and private, then revalue the currency and either fix it’s quantity permanently using some form of technology–my vote–or tie it to gold, which is at least something.

All of our problems have relatively simple solutions, which amount to not allowing psychopaths to create unnecessary problems in the first place, and then prevent their solution.
