Civil Disobedience

You know, Thoreau is who made me interested in the examined life, or the intellectual life, or the thought worker life, or whatever it is I do here.  He’s known for “On Walden Pond”, but he also wrote an essay called “Civil Disobedience” which , if memory serves, had to do with the Mexican-American War.

Me, I’ve reached that point.  I’m always out exploring, and checked out a place I had not been to in a while.  They used to have a bar you could sit at and talk to people.  The last time I was there I had a long conversation with the owner of a trucking company about working with gangsters in New Jersey.  Good times.  But he creeped me the fuck out.  I inferred things I wish I had not.  But it was still interesting.

Tonight, they took my temperature as I walked in (masked, of course).  The gal with the colored hair asked me how I was.  I told her “I’m living in the fucking Twilight Zone.”

The bartender was nice enough.  I tipped him $10 on a $30 tab.  That’s not great, but not terrible.  He said he had been doing fine.

But walking out I was like “I’m done with this fucking mask”.  I had been watching one of the managers walk by me for a while.  You can tell fearful people by their body language, and he was definitely fearful.

I was walking literally about 30 steps from my table to the front door and he told me “you need to wear a mask”.  I told him “oh, I’ll be putting it on in just a second”.  He said “you have to wear it between the table and the door”.  I got to the door, turned around, patted him on the shoulder, and told him “don’t worry, I won’t come back.  And go fuck yourself.”  Verbatim quote.

If you are saying to yourself “hey, this guy is an asshole”, yes, yes, sometimes I am.  The world needs assholes.  It needs them a hell of a lot more than it needs more fucking sheep.  I AM an asshole, sometimes.  I have never felt any need to deny it.  I am also fiercely loyal, principled, and thoughtful.  If I might channel my inner Kant, would I will that all the people in the world be like me?  Yes, yes, I would.  Dear God it would become complicated, but ideas would flow like rivers, and sooner or later all of us would become congruent, and really, really interesting, creative and good things would start to happen.

I’m done with this bullshit.  Unless it is absolutely necessary for work, I am asthmatic from this moment forward, and anyone asking me to wear a mask is risking me hyperventilating and even passing out.  I might have even passed out last week.   I’m not sure yet.

I think of the Taoists.  I don’t remember if it was Lao Tse or Chuang Tse, or both, but one or both commented that if you have too many rules, you make liars of everyone.

Well, I am going to become a liar.  I have natural talent for it, but in general I prefer the truth.  But idiots and cowards do not deserve the truth.  Fuck all of them.

Let’s all devoutly pray that this period where so many Americans were tested and found wanting passes soon, and we can go back to pretending that a good chunk of us are not ignorant, cowardly, conformist douchebags.

Most Governors seem to be getting away with calling the normal effects of easing lockdowns problematic.  Farr’s Law says the only way through a pandemic is for 60-70% of the people in the population to get the disease, or at least be exposed to it.  If the population is healthy, then you can get through it easily.  If it is unhealthy–as happened in 1918–then many of those exposed also die.

But regardless, THIS IS HOW HUMANITY HAS GOTTEN THROUGH EVERY PANDEMIC IN HISTORY.

To be sure, we learned to prevent some, such as measles and tuberculosis, through vaccination, but when the thing is raging, the fastest way out is through.  The science is very clear, as far as I can tell, and no qualified epidemiologist can, in my view, be unfamiliar with this FACT.

But our Governors keep extending their draconian limitations on our freedom every time it becomes obvious that we are moving towards Herd Immunity, which is to say the cessation both of the disease, and the increasingly flimsy justifications for the assaults on our liberty and emotional and economic health.

Look up the death rate in your State, in normal times.  Use, say, 2015 as a benchmark.

If you see what I am seeing, then the disease is causing much less than 10% of the deaths which would be expected in any month in any normal year.

To state the obvious–which is seemingly necessary any more–that level of death does not come CLOSE to justifying the measures being taken.

If the cause of freedom and goodness wins, then this will in very little time come to be seen as the largest public policy disaster in modern times.  It is worse, in many respects, than the Great Depression.  I suspect more people will die of preventable causes, globally.

And as I’ve said, the casualties of Communism–with the WHO being run by and for Communists–could DOUBLE in a few months.  That is no easy feat to achieve, and that level of evil is impossible for psychologically normal people to fathom, particularly when the purpose is putting humanity under the jackboot of psychopaths.

George Floyd

I think a good case could be made that the lockdowns—the fruit mainly of criminals and anti-science sanctimonious pricks—are what caused the death of George Floyd. What caused his death was Fentanyl, which either stopped his heart outright, or induced the behavior which led to a knee on his neck. If he had stayed home and had a six pack of PBR’s, he would most likely be alive.

As I understand the story, he was clean at the start of this massive assault on our liberty and well being. It is not unreasonable to suppose he was one of many MILLIONS of recovered  addicts who relapsed in the face of unrelenting hopelessness, poverty, and pain.

The psychopaths behind this cannot be let anywhere near power again. What they touch, they break, and who they touch, they wound.

“Right Wing” media

It occurs to me that people who refuse to read or watch things that are from a “right wing” source, are literally saying “I can’t watch that, because it is not Party approved.”

The logical extension is “I only get my information from Pravda, because with a name like Truth it HAS to be good.”

I really wish this were hyperbole. But it isn’t. I see it daily.

The limits of safety

I took an interest a while back in “tightly bound systems”.  I forget why.  Gregory Bateson may have talked about them.  I bought a few books I never read, but did scan.

The gist of the idea is that inflexible systems tend to create accidents of their own, even if the goal of the system is to avoid accidents.  There is really no substitute for intelligent, case based, human judgement.  Someone, somewhere, possessed of common sense and goodwill, needs to ask “does what we are doing make sense?  Is it accomplishing what we set out to accomplish?”

When the whiff of this disease starting floating in Corporate America, they started worrying about lawsuits.  They gravitated towards a “zero defect” mentality.  So did most governments.

And systems, once they acquire a momentum of their own, develop their own logic, their own inertia.  The goal becomes the persistence of the system, not the solution of the actual originating problem.

What is obvious is that the “zero defect” mentality, which seeks to use government to win a pissing contest with the disease, such that it eventually disappears, regardless of the cost, is going to cost many, many more lives than are being saved.  The logic is lunacy.  The system is perverse, inverted, ugly.

Somewhere in here sane, intelligent people need to do the obvious cost/benefit analysis and make the obvious and only defensible decision, which is generalized reopening at a rapid pace.  Anything else will be generating needless and painful death.

To be sure, the Democrats clearly seem to be willing to sacrifice tens and even hundreds of thousands of people to pursue their political objectives, but that degree of psychopathy only truly exists at the core, in people like Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden.  Everyone else needs to wake the fuck up.

A protective idea I have not seen

Would it not make sense to put fans behind the backs of people dealing with the public?  Teachers dealing with students, and cashiers dealing with the public?  I think it would make more sense in most cases than these plastic shields.

The virus particles are small and would respond instantly, I would think, to even mild air flow.

The response to this pandemics continues to boggle my mind.  Yes, there is a power elite directing it.  But why are so many otherwise smart people just going along with this idiocy?

I will grant that my own early conditioning makes me ideally suited to detect and react to bullshit, but surely to God after nearly six months the BS detectors of everyone with a pulse and the ability to read has to be starting to sound off?

Another perspective

One way of rendering the Buddhist conception of human life, as I understand it, is that a human life is an E ticket ride (if I am writing for anyone, I think I am writing for people who will get that reference) that countless souls are waiting in line for.

You would not want to wait all that time for something insipid, would you?  No: there will always be death, pain, and disease.  Accustom yourself to that idea, then learn to see the sky from the bottom of the well.  We all return there one day.

Principle

If you crap on the people who create jobs you crap on the people who need jobs. Only once a job exists can its terms be negotiated and improved, and as a general rule the more people there are creating jobs, the better the conditions and wages will be, naturally.

This might be the simplest summation of some key conservative—which is to say traditional and time tested—economic ideas I have yet proposed.

Black Lives do not matter to BLM

I gather intelligence everyehere I go. Im always looking and watching and questioning.

For the second time in August I just heard a credible rumor that a large employer in my own city may close a building where something like 10,000 people work.

Some of them may be laid iff but most will simply continue to work from home. Pretty much all major corporations seem to be finding white collar computer work can be done from anywhere, and they are eager to cut their real estate costs.

But of course where “downtown” in most major cities is concerned you have COVID, and more importantly you have rampant crime, vandalism, and depending on your city not infrequent riots.

All of these could EASILY reverse 3-4 decades of slow urban growth and improvement. They coukd wipe out decades of job growth in mere months, and THOSE JOBS MAY NOT COME BACK.

Gentrification creates jobs. You need cooks and servers and property managers and security guards and janitors and a host of other things. The latter depend on the former. And if all the people who used to come in every day for lunch or after work drinks move to exurbia or suburbia, who will keep you in business? Nobody. You will fail.

And once downtown looks like a ghost town, who wants to come there? The only people wandering around are those stuck there.

Rage is an easy emotion, and for short periods of time a gratifying one. But it is not easy to rebuild what can be destroyed quickly and thoroughly.

And rage is a particularly egregious and truly criminal emotion when what you are destroying does not even beling to you, as is the case with so many white punks who go into black neighborhoods, fuck thimgs up, then leave feeling like misunderstood saints.

Urban blacks, particularly, need to wake up and wake up FAST.

HCQ talking points

 1. HCQ is a synthetic derivative of quinine, which is the tonic in gin and tonic.

2. It has been on the market for 65 years or so.

3. It is sold over the counter as a de facto vitamin in much of the world.

4. In malaria prone countries it is MANDATED by the WHO as prophylaxis.

5. India, Switzerland, and other nations used it successfully to end their own COVID epidemics, and no major media figures are talking about them.

6. It was banned for over the counter sale in France on Jan. 13th, which is to say right before the pandemic hit Europe.  To call this highly suspicious is to understate the case, in my view.

7. Many highly credible doctors in this country have used it successfully both to prevent COVID-19, and to prevent it from getting worse in those already infected.  Virtually no one given HCQ at the right point in the arc of their illness will die, and most will not even require hospitalization.

8. There can be little question than Anthony Fauci, Robert Redfield, and Deborah Birx KNOW ALL OF THIS.

9. The main “study” purporting to show dangers with this very old, vintage drug used fake data, and had to be retracted.  The company which provided the data, Surgisphere, is effectively guilty of mass murder, and if investigated will most likely prove to have had ties to Big Pharma, the CIA, or both.

The only other reported issues–again, we are more or less dealing with tonic water–have to do with very long term daily use, which is to say five years or more, which no one is proposing right now.

10. If you are not pissed, confused, and scared, you did not understand what I just wrote.

And I wonder where President Trump is in all this.  He knows this stuff too.  Is he fighting a back alley battle with Big Pharma?  It’s hard not to see his recent measures to cut drug costs as a sort of offensive against them.  Maybe he knows they are behind it, and maybe there is a great deal going on we don’t know about.

Please continue to pray for the triumph of goodness and light.  We are SO CLOSE to being able to build a world which is peaceful, prosperous and happy.  But it could all come crashing down, particularly if the useful idiots continue being useful idiots.
