A possible aid to meditation

In an infinite universe–which we may live in, or perhaps in an infinite Mind, which amounts to the same thing, except that no physical laws exist any more if they ever did–this planet has been duplicated infinite times.  There are planets that are 100 years behind us, and a 100 years ahead of us.  Some found ways to spiritual peace and physical harmony and sufficiency, and some destroyed themselves.  Some fell and some will fall into darkness.

You can’t fix them all.  You can’t fix any of them.  There is an infinite amount of trouble out there.  There is no end.

Here is what I propose–and this is my meditation for me that I am sharing, for you to do what you will with: we are not here to fix the world, but OURSELVES.  That is the point of life.

Granted, it is a cliche.  But a recontextualized cliche, and I personally needed that new context.

Me, I have always had this latent sense of carrying the world on my shoulders.  I am most likely a type recognizable to savvy and experienced therapists.  I have a history that predisposed me to this, and the details don’t interest me at the moment, and even less anyone reading this.

Here is the thing: we can never, ever, ever absolutely guarantee an outcome involving situations where many elements are beyond our control.  And of course when it comes to the planet, few individuals matter at all.  Our future will be decided, most likely by less than a 1,000 people globally.

Part of growing as a spirit and being is CARING.  Caring implies doing what you can to alleviate unnecessary and unhelpful human suffering (not all suffering IS unnecessary or unhelpful, to be clear) as best you can.  In the present time, to my mind this would involve political awareness and engagement.  This is a hell of a fight.

But all I as a person can speak to is my own effort.  And whatever happens, my  belief is that I will go on in some way, somewhere.  A large body of empirical data supports this notion, so this is not pie in the sky, and it is certainly not a religious sentiment, as I don’t have a formal faith.

For me, though, accepting the possibility of failure is most likely the best first step for me to be able to put my true best foot forward to play my role in stopping this darkness.  And that image, of infinite Earths, infinite clusterfucks and paradises, is useful.  It may be for you too.
