I am going to permit myself a comment.
There is no us in sports. You have no relationship to her. Her life is her life, to be lived precisely as she sees fit. Neither our physical safety nor our collective well being depends on her, or any other athlete (or for that matter entertainer or celebrity of any sort).
Here is Babylon Bee’s take on this: https://babylonbee.com/news/man-lying-on-couch-covered-in-cheeto-dust-refers-to-favorite-sports-team-as-we
Most of her life, she has been Tom Cruise in the first half of Top Gun. She has been daring, audacious, and full of speed. Apparently, from time to time, for reasons neither she nor anyone around her really understands, she is Tom Cruise after he lost Goose.
If this is true, her sole concern was for the team, making her decision laudable.
I will comment though that we all have lives of our own to live, and I cannot see how anyone could want so badly to live vicariously through others, as so many seem to do in this and other countries, without having forfeited nearly all the joy, adventure, risk, and meaningful hard work possible for them in their own lives.
I hope she comes back. I will be fine if she doesn’t. But for her sake, and her sake alone, I hope she gets everything sorted out. God knows I understand emotional pain. What I DON’T understand is the grit and pure physical courage it has taken for her to be the best of the best. If you are honest, neither do you.
Pray for her. Pray for all who are hurting.
